MARCIN DYLLA

Der polnische Gitarrist Marcin Dylla ist mit 19 ersten Preisen bei internationalen Musikwettbewerben und etlichen Publikums- und Orchesterpreisen eine absolute Ausnahmeerscheinung der jüngeren Musikgeschichte. Zuletzt gewann er die ‘2007 Guitar Foundation of America International Competition’ in Los Angeles, den weltweit bedeutendsten Gitarrenwettbewerb.

Marcin Dylla wird von zahlreichen Fachleuten und Musikliebhabern zur absoluten Elite der gesamten Gitarrenwelt gezählt. Cecilia Rodrigo, die Tochter und Nachlassverwalterin des legendären spanischen Komponisten und Schöpfers des ‘Concierto de Aranjuez’ Joaquin Rodrigo, wählte den jungen Polen zur Welt-Uraufführung eines erst kürzlich entdeckten Gitarrenwerks ihres Vaters mit dem Titel ‘Toccata’ (1933) aus. Diese fand am 1. Juni 2006 im Reina Sofia Museum of Modern Art in Madrid statt.

Solistisch gastierte er bisher in renommierten Kulturzentren wie etwa dem Beethovensaal der Liederhalle Stuttgart, dem Konzerthaus, Musikverein und Palais Lobkovitz in Wien, Auditorio Nacional und Auditorio Conde Duque in Madrid, Philharmonie St. Petersburg, Kleinhans Music Hall in Buffalo, Villa Hügel in Essen oder der Palazzina Liberty in Mailand. In der Saison 2008/09 war er auf einer ausgedehnten Konzerreise durch die USA, Kanada und Mexiko, die fast die gesamte Spielzeit umfasste. Gastspiele fanden u. a. in San Francisco, Edmonton, Calgary, Chicago, Salt Lake City, Denver, Miami, Houston, Memphis, Dallas, Seattle, Minneapolis, Nashville, New Orleans und erneut in Buffalo statt.

Neben Konzerten auf nahezu allen der hochkarätigen Gitarrenfestivals in Europa und Nordamerika folgte Marcin Dylla auch Einladungen zu etlichen internationalen Musikfestspielen, darunter das Festival Internazionale Settimane Musicali di Stresa, Don Quijote Musikfestival (Paris), Burghofspiele Eltville, International Festival Musical Olympus (St. Petersburg), Inverno Musicale (Alzano), Central European Music Festival (Zilinai), Festival Internacional de Música (Toledo), das Musique Dans la Rue (Aix-en-Provence) und das Hermitage Festival in St. Petersburg.

Mit großem Erfolg arbeitete Marcin Dylla auch mit Dirigenten und Orchestern in Europa und den USA zusammen. Zu nennen wären hier insbesondere JoAnn Falletta, Mariusz Smolij, Jonathan Stockhammer, das Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, das SWR-Radiosinfonieorchester Stuttgart, das Orquesta Sinfónica de Radio Television Espanola (RTVE Madrid), das St. Petersburg Philharmonia Orchestra, das Orchestra Filharmonica di Torino, das Hermitage State Orchestra und das Kammerorchester Essen.

Marcin Dylla wurde 1976 in Chorzow geboren. Seinen ersten Gitarrenunterricht erhielt er im Alter von acht Jahren an der Musikschule in Ruda Slaska (Polen). Von 1995 bis 2000 studierte er an der Musikakademie in Kattowitz bei Adi Wanda Palacz. Er vervollständigte seine Ausbildung bei Prof. Oscar Ghiglia an der Musikakademie Basel, bei Prof. Sonja Prunnbauer an der Musikhochschule in Freiburg und bei Prof. Carlo Marchione am Musikkonservatorium in Maastricht.

Seine im September 2008 bei NAXOS erschienene CD mit Werken von Rodrigo, Tansman, Maw und Ponce hielt sich über mehrere Monate unter den NAXOS ‘Top 10 Bestselling Albums’.

Polish guitarist and German resident Marcin Dylla restored the meaning of the word Saturday evening in an absolutely stunning concert, the final event in GuitarSarasota’s current season. Judging by the total silence of the audience before the eruption of thunderous applause after each item on the program, ‘incredible’ was back to its original strength in the handsome and acoustically rich hall at St. Paul Lutheran Church, at least for the duration of Dylla’s recital.
Large-scale, challenging compositions for solo guitar are not heard often in our city, certainly not performed at this level of seemingly effortless technique and intense artistry…
The program closed with ‘Three Spanish Pieces’ by Joaquin Rodrigo, whose ‘Concierto de Aranjuez’ has become a cornerstone of the guitar and orchestral repertoire. This performance was touching in its lyricism and, well, incredible in its technical prowess. So secure was Dylla that he answered an audience sneeze with a spoken ‘Bless you’ without missing a beat.”

“The biggest bang of the evening was as a result of the performance by the guest artist, Marcin Dylla, a Polish, by way of Germany, guitarist. He performed the Concierto de Aranjuez penned by the Spanish composer Joaquin Rodrigo.
While the piece is recognized as a classic blend of the guitar and orchestra, Dylla plays his instrument as a six-string orchestra, in and of itself. The balance of the music comes forth as a background.
This guitarist is one of the most formidable and talented instrumentalists to have graced the Heymann Performing Arts Center stage in some time. The man simply gathered the audience into his musical embrace and kept them there. The velvet clutch was based upon the siren-like song of his guitar, as well as Dylla’s uncanny ability to control and then amplify the sounds of six strings into a fully developed concert.
I first heard Dylla in an evening recital in the Lafayette home of Patrick and Jennifer LeBlanc. The intimacy of that environment was ideally suited to the instrument's sound, creating a mood and setting of intimacy and grace. The man played his guitar, caressing the instrument’s neck with his left hand and deftly stroking with the right, as a paramour caressing his beloved’s cheek. The music that he played that night, and the way in which he interpreted the notes, is best personified by a lover’s sensuous embrace, or perhaps even a gentle slap - moods that deal with the pendulous swing of any relationship. With only six strings, he caught the entire spectrum of emotions that is ordinarily wrought by the majestic sweep of an entire orchestra.”
