ALESSANDRO CRUDELE

Young Italian Alessandro Crudele is about to establish himself as one of the most outstanding and versatile conductors of his generation. So far he has already conducted the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Symphony, the Melbourne Symphony, the Israel Symphony, the Orchestra Sinfonica Arturo Toscanini, the Orchestra dell’Accademia del Teatro alla Scala, the North Czech Philharmonic Orchestra and the the Hong Kong Sinfonietta. Among his forthcoming engagements rank performances with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, the Prague Symphony Orchestra FOK, the Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música, the Israel Chamber Orchestra as well as a return visit to the North Czech Philharmonic.

In 1999 Crudele was appointed Chief Conductor of the Milan State University Orchestra. This orchestra gained considerable recognition in just two years under his leadership and performs today with renowned soloists such as Paul Badura-Skoda, Kolja Blacher, Enrico Dindo, Stefan Dohr, Viviane Hagner, Karin Lechner, Karl Leister, Albrecht Mayer, Gerhard Oppitz, Vadim Repin, Fazil Say, Sergio Tiempo and Lilya Zilberstein.

Alessandro Crudele made his debut with the Orchestra dell’Accademia del Teatro alla Scala in 2003 and was immediately invited back which gave him the opportunity to establish a co-operation on a very regular basis.

Among his most recent activities are his conducting of the opera “Il Signor Bruschino“ by Gioachino Rossini in Milan, debuts at Tonhalle Zurich with the Milan State University Orchestra and at the Philharmonie Berlin at the helm of the Berlin Symphony Orchestra as well as a critically acclaimed visit to South Africa conducting the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra and the Kwazulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra.

His repertoire comprises music from the 17th century to the contemporary. Furthermore Crudele has been highly esteemed for his renderings of the music of the French impressionism. This is also given evidence by a DVD featuring works by Ravel and Debussy.

Alessandro Crudele was born in Milan. He studied violin with Daniele Gai and composition with Fabio Vacchi at the Conservatory Giuseppe Verdi and graduated in 1997. His education as a conductor already started at an early age. From 1999 to 2001 he continued with Gianluigi Gelmetti at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena where he was awarded several scholarships and the most prestigious “Diploma d’Onore“. As an assistant of Gianluigi Gelmetti he also served at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, at the Covent Garden in London and at the Opera House in Rome.

Nowadays Alessandro Crudele makes his living in Berlin where he received further instruction from Sir Simon Rattle.

“I know Maestro Alessandro Crudele very well. Having been my student and my assistant, he is now developing a brilliant activity of his own. He is a sincere and reliable conductor. He knows how to establish a good relationship with orchestras and he has, which is very rare, the ability to conduct rehearsals with great professionalism. He is competent in creating and establishing an orchestra and also in bringing out the best in a prestigious orchestra. Good capacities of interpretation and synthesis enable him to sometimes indulge and to reveal new and interesting details, but without flaunting this and without loosing sight of the central theme. I recommend him with pleasure and I am convinced that he will not disappoint.”
GIANLUIGI GELMETTI

“Having had the privilege and the pleasure to perform Beethoven’s Concerto No. 5 with Maestro Alessandro Crudele in Milano, I am going to summarize the impressions resulting from this artistic encounter. Crudele is certainly one of the most significant conductors of his generation I have met so far – his artistry is demonstrating a well-balanced combination of musical intelligence and highly refined sensitivity. Whenever he starts to rehearse a certain composition with the orchestra, he arrives with clear ideas about structure and message of that work, and he has got an admirable gift of communicating his profound insights to the orchestra members in a convincing way. Without ever trying to apply undue pressure on the players, he is able to unite them in their wish to present interpretations full of wisdom, fantasy, vivid emotions and atmospheric imagination. He has accumulated a great amount as well as a large variety of experience in conducting works of all relevant styles.”
GERHARD OPPITZ

“Regarding Alessandro Crudele and relying on an acquaintance of many years, I can say that he is a musician of solid preparation and of elaborate and variegated taste. His musical education include studies of the violin, composition and conducting. In this last discipline Crudele has already proved himself and given respectful evidence, especially considering his young age. All this reveal his seriousness and determination, which characterise him and will let him make an important career. His performances distinguish themselves for the meticulousness of rehearsals, due also to a particular attention to details and to a great coloured sensitivity.”
